Urban farming is on the rise around the world, driven by the need to address food security issues and biophilic design in a rapidly urbanising world. Hence, addressing the relationship between food and the sustainable development of cities has become the priority of municipal governments of many major cities in the world.  It is expected that more than half of the world’s population will be living in the city by 2050. Apart from food safety and security, people are more concerned about their physical and mental well-being, rebuilding health and human connection in this densely packed cityscape.


Urban farms, now an emerging facility of new urban living, integrates nature and into human communities in the city, has displayed great potential in fulfilling such demand, offers great opportunities for both public and private sectors. In addition, it offers an opportunity to enhance the building value, brand image and cultivate stronger tenant engagement.


In view of this growing demand, managing urban farms as part of green facilities is becoming an essential industry know-how for Facilities management.

Course Description

Upon completing the course, participants will:

Through talks, case study sharing and hands-on sessions, this course aims to provide participants with an overview of the basic principles for managing an urban farm in their properties, and an all-rounded understanding on how to integrate an urban farm into various types of properties - retail, office, residential, hospitality and more.
